Conservatives/NDP
Harper/Layton
Only in my wildest dreams could I have pictured the "Grand Coalition" being the NDP and the Conservatives. The old time socialists must be loving this. I know, I know Jack did it because Harper gave in to "our" demands on EI reform. I can see the self justification happening from coast to coast of this wonderful country of ours.
Good thing Elizabeth May does not have a seat she would not know which coalition to join.
I tip my hat to Steven Harper he is a survivor.

A guy who will do the right thing for the working man/woman only when a gun is pointed to his head might be a survivor, but he sure as hell ain't a leader. As such, he ain't much of a role model to be 'tipping' ones hat to.
Following that line of thought the person worse than the leader who only does the right thing when the gun is pointed to his head, is the person that allows himself to be manipulated to allow that person's survival!
Do you really believe Layton is doing this now for the benefit of the working man/women.
He is doing this for two reasons, one he recognizes that the majority of the public as no desire for an election at this time. Second look at the NDP standing in the opinion polls at this time they would be lucky to hang on to what they have.
Lastly John, I will be the first to admit, Harper leaves a lot to be desired, but what are the alternatives? I indeed wish the Conservatives would find a more dynamic leader.
Touché, on your opening paragraph. :-)
I like to believe the NDP are looking at this as an opportunity to get things done for the working man/woman during these hard economic times, who the conservatives have abandoned and demonstrated they could careless for. At the same time I cannot argue with your reasoning as to their motives. You are probably right to a large extent.
I wish the conservatives were 'progressive' conservatives again, instead of Reform/Alliance conservatives. I have no problem with the former but I do with the latter.
