Bellevue Seniors Centre Mixed messages

After reading the article in the Herald today I am getting a little confused, was the direction of the municipality to get rid of the Bellevue Seniors Centre after they had received the facilities audit report.
Or did it become such a hot political potato that the direction on the facility suddenly changed?

In the Pass herald article titled "Facility Audit encourages demolishion" dated March 13,2012
http://passherald.ca/archives/120313/index3.htm

The following was stated "The Bellevue Seniors' Centre was found to be in very poor and unsafe condition, and Thompson recommended that the building be decommissioned as soon as possible"

In today's paper http://passherald.ca/index2.htm article titled "Bellevue Seniors raise their voice" Mr Thompson stated the following "I do not think that we have made any indication that we are going to demolish the building" additionally he also stated "Overall, the Seniors Centre was deemed as marginal"

Several concerns the statement made at last weeks meeting provides a different much softer tone than the previous statement made back in February. (That potato getting hot?)
Then going back to that same first statement a determination needs to be made very quickly is that building safe or not? because if the municipality has a report in it's hands that says the facility is unsafe and something happens who is liable?

Side note: Can't wait to see those $70,000 Community Peace Officer vehicles our tax dollars are going to be paying for over the next year.
I remember sitting in a meeting listening to a consultant tell council that the peace officer program would pay for itself including start up costs by January of next year ?

Good to see you back. We thought that Ayatollah Decoux had you banished to another planet.

Rumor has it that the Best Western Hotel is coming to town. 60 Rooms with a swiming pool(Local owner). Is it the same person who was trying to get a Super 8 a few years ago? Hope they have deep pockets. We can't fill the 25 room one in town now.

Here we go again - bring it on... Crowsnest negativity. Is anyone ever happy about anything here. I am starting to think that no matter what happens there is going to be something wrong with it. Smile and be happy when something good happens. Heard of cup half full, not cup half empty. Have a good day in the beautiful Crowsnest.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know? What I do know is the Ramada Inn in Pincher is for sale. And that they are presently breaking ground for a Best Western in Sparwood (and a Timmy's). Maybe the person who first broke this news on my blog has his towns mixed up?

Welcome back Dean. I too was wondering if you had been shut down. It seems the newspapers have been slapped into submission. Good to know we can count on you.

4:51 where is the truth negative? which part of Dean's post is false?

Anonymous said...

Meaning negative comments: such as:

We can't fill the 25 room one in town now.

Dean, glad to see you back. I agree that it looks like a hot potatoe. But council still must do what is right, which would be to either fix the building or close it.
The Hotel rumuor would be great news. My guess is that it is false because otherwise the councilors with blogs surely would have posted on this positive news.
As for the peace officers paying for themselves I thought the report said that it would happen by Jan.2014 and not Jan.2013.

So is Jim's statement false are you telling me that the 25 room hotel is full on a regular basis?

Anonymous said...

No, what I am saying is continued negativity. Maybe hotel is empty for a reason.

Ok 10:12

The 25 room hotel in Coleman is full almost every night. Could we ever use a new hotel in the Crowsnest Pass.

Feel better now?

I feel way better now. Thank you.
Plus, I even got to laugh, which is really good.

After reading the article in the paper, why would they want to be in an unsafe building. Maybe a better alternative would be another building located downtown.

The building needs about 40,000 dollars worth of work. Some that can be done by our own employees, like the electrical. If they can waste 18,000 on a dog park in Hillcrest surely they can find the funds for this.
As for no members of council showing up and using a feeble excuse that the process does not allow it is pure BS.

Or $140,000 to buy two community peace officer trucks. Or $13,000 on bed and breakfast for consultants.

How much does it cost to run the Seniors centre?

Looking back at the numbers from 2002 to 2009 it varied any where from $2000 to $5000 per year.

That's 2-5 days pay for the consultant they have at municipal hall vs 365 days of loss of use for dozens and dozens of our seniors. Is this mayor, council and administration about serving the people, or discarding them?

So they are going to piss off 500 people in the east end for $5000 a year.
When is the next election?
Bet you $100 they back down on this issue!
