At Council meeting Feb 5 the Mayor gave a little bit of a commentary on two issues in the Crowsnest Pass and even though his comments sounded strange to me the public deserves to know.
(Anybody that was at the meeting and feels I am misquoting the Mayor please let me know and I will be glad to change the comments but this is what I heard)
He began by talking about "Annexation" he stated "let me be clear we are investigating and talking about the process of annexation, we have never said that we are actually doing it"
Then he went on to talk about the inequities between municipalities in this province within his comments about those inequities he stated the following "This small community is having the life taxed out of us"
On point number two myself and the Mayor agree, fortunately for the Mayor and Council they have the opportunity in their hands to reverse that direction right now, the budget process is still ongoing.
Note: Administration was asked the question what percentage of the RCMP tickets does the municipality receive? the answer was the same has the Peace Officers tickets.
Now keep in mind one subtle difference, we do not pay for the RCMP just another thought for the budget process.

We are way over taxed. What the Mare and council seem not to understand is that they are the ones that control spending.Spend less, Tax less.Spend more, tax more.Pretty simple.
Looks like after destroying the Rum Runner Weekend, our council is ready to "wash their hands" of the whole affair. Much easier to destroy something than to create something. Way to go guys.
Maybe after what happened to our Rum Runner days someone can approach the Lethbridge & District Exhibition Board to move Whoop –up Days to the Pass? They already have so many events in Lethbridge. Just an idea.
Off topic - This municipal inspection sure seems to be taking a lont time. If we do not get some results soon what will it matter.8 more months to election.
Indeed. According to the Mare, the Lethbridge Exhibition people will come here and save the Pass.
maybe we could annex whoop up days from lethbridge?
Maybe they are just simply looking for volunteers in Lethbridge?
The lethbridge exhibition was coming here until the ratepayers did there petition. They were so foolish why can we not just move forward with all the positive changes this council is providing. Do you really think the coal mine would have come here without the efforts of this Mayor and council.
“The lethbridge exhibition was coming here until the ratepayers did there petition” – This is worth Comedy Central. Our council appointed some of their own to the Rum Runner committee, they tried their best (and hats off for the effort) and the affair was a major flop. You think the people in Lethbridge were not aware of this? Were they ready to send their volunteers from Lethbridge? Or were they ready to “consult” on the project. The idea that they were not aware of the mess this council made of our most important summer event is very naive. It is also very naive to think that this was anything more than someone grasping at straws. PREPOSTROUS AND FUNNY AT THE SAME TIME. Even more humorous when connected to the proposed coal mine! Think, who called the police on our own volunteers? If “silent majority” is out there, why are volunteers so scarce, and why was the Rum Runners Weekend such a flop?
To Anon 12:06 ...
COAL MINES GO WHERE THERE IS COAL!!
The mayor did not put coal there.
"The mayor did not put coal there."
I always beieved that Santa Claus delivered coal to those children that have been bad.
You go Bruce! Milk it. How did you ever know? We will be rich and prosperous due to yout forsight.

At the presentation the Riversdale guy said he dropped in to chat with the Mayor as a courtesy call.
Bruce has inflated this into enormous "hard work".
The other six had nothing to do with it.
The only specific thing supposedly done is help Riverside with office space and housing. These are big boys, they do $multimillion deals around the world. I'm sure they didn't need Bruce's help finding a local realtor.
Rum Runners wsa a flop because there are thousands of little community parades all over Canada. What made us special was the fireworks. Grab a brain our administration does not have one. There is not a brain in the whole bunch of them
Of the subject did anybody notice in the Free Press the town of Sparwood is selling a piece of commercial property the same size has the Centre Site for $3.7 million.
To P&H.

We sold ours for $300K (after demolition) still not knowing the terms and conditions of this sale? Just more pie-in-the-sky and a major lost opportunity by those who know not what they do.
Sad! Truly Sad!! Unbelievably SAD!!! What could have been but for the lack of vision and imagination?
