Now we have a Councilor making comments regarding the increase in inflation to justify utility rate increases.
I felt it would be relevant to give my readers the opportunity to see what the rate of inflation is. So on the right hand side of my blog under Interesting blogs and Websites I have provided the link to Stats Canada CPI tracker.

For Canada has a whole the rate of Inflation was 2.0% in April up a touch from 1.9% in March.
Looking at Alberta it was 0.8% in April down from 1.7% in March.

Canada Census 2011 For those that love numbers

Canada Census today’s released some very interesting numbers on the age of the Canadian population.

Canada has a total population of 33,476,690 broken down into three age groups 0-14, 15-64 and 65+.

For the whole of Canada 16.8% of the populations is between 0-14, 68.4% is between 15-64 and 14.8% is 65+ with the median age for the country being 41.5.

Alberta not surprisingly is younger than most of the rest of Canada the 0-14 represents 18.8% of the population the 15-64 group 70.1% and the 65+ is 11.1% with the median age for the province being 37.1.

On a local level how do we compare in the Crowsnest Pass, the 0-14 group sits at 12% the 15-64 is at 66% and the 65+ makes up 21% of our population with our median sitting at 51.3.   

Inflation rate for Alberta

Interesting information today from the Canadian Government on the rate of inflation for November Alberta is down to 0.1%
That bodes well for the residential taxpayer that is anticipating tax increases to keep in line with the rate of inflation.

Are Politics moving to the right in both Alberta and Ottawa?

Last week Ted Morton is given the purse strings in Alberta, clearly a step to deflate the growing support of the the Wildrose party, by appealing to the right wing voters in the province.
This week Stockwell Day is placed in charge of the Federal Treasury, clearly one of Harpers most trusted and right wing lieutenants.
Politically I understand the swing to the right in Alberta, but Ottawa I am having trouble understanding that.
Alberta no matter what the Liberals and NDP's say is a right wing province that is not going to change in the foreseeable future, it will remain either right wing or even more right wing.
Ottawa that's a different story they obviously have more than one province to please, Stockwell Day, right wing Conservative, Harper Loyalist, from Alberta.
How will that play in Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces, everywhere but the West.
And what does it say about the fiscal direction of both the province and Ottawa.

Have a read of this article I posted on June 3, not that long ago. I had people laugh at me then. We are seeing todate the results of a world living on credit, running budgets that are sustained by unrealistic growth levels. It does not matter who you are how much money you make or have at the end of the day you have to live within your means. And yes that includes all levels of government also.
