In the last week I have received a number of emails/calls regarding the bag limit on garbage in the Crowsnest Pass, and the issue of recycling. One person felt there should me no bag limit that there was no correlation between bag limits and recycling. Another person felt that recycling was a complete waste of taxpayers money. (Presently it costs the taxpayers $90,000 a year).
Then a couple more people felt that our bag limit was way too high and it should be lower.
Anyway I have posted a poll regarding the bag limit and would love to hear any feedback on this issue.
Further Information
Pincher Creek 2 bag limit
Sparwood 2 bag limit
Elkford uses clear bins and will not take paper, milk jugs or any other recyclables.
Recycling rate in the Elk Valley approx 20%
Recycling rate in the Crowsnest Pass approx 4%

Will the recycling numbers be different now that various milk containers are now accepted at bottle depots?
Taxpayers subsidize a private company for recycling in the Pass, how is that rate set?
Interesting point on the milk jugs but keep in mind that comparing to the Elk Valley numbers, BC still does not charge a refundable deposit on milk jugs.
On the private company doing the recyling that is a very common practice, Pincher Creek as Camerons, if you want recycling you are going to have to subsidez it. It is not a stand alone business.
For information purposes we recycled roughly 300 tonnes in 2009the cost on that at the landfill would be almost $13,000 ($43 per tonne) the cost to recycle that
($90000 divided by 300 tonnes equals $300 per tonne)
A quick walk down my alley on garbage day showed a few people with 1 bag, a few with 3 and most with 2 bags.So I think 3 should be the number of bags per household as to not punish large families.I also think garbage removal and recycling should be put up for tender when there contracts are up.If I remember right these were just handed out to the companies that were doing it before. All contracted services should be put up for tender, always.I do not care how happy councilers are with the past service.Companies must compete in order for the municapality to get the best bang for there buck.
Setting the record straight:
When the garbage was tendered out only one company put in for it, despite the fact that administration notified at least five other companies that it was up for bids.
On the recycling there was two companies that bid on the contract with both tenders almost identical on the dollars.
I 100% agree with your comments about competition.
