Gopher Hunting in the Crowsnest Pass

Anybody else remember the attitude that was taken at the town hall meeting regarding stupid rumours? Remember that little speech?

How the idea of a gopher hunter being paid $850 a day was laughed off?

Well read the front page of today's Promoter.
Next thing you know somebody will try and tell us that the Peace Officers will pay for themselves.

The thing that stands out for me on that Town Hall Meeting is how condescending they all were, and how much smarter they were than the rest of us dumb hillbillies. Well some of us dummies would like to know why locals were not hired for the 'shooting' of gophers? Why did we have to contract out 'once again' to outsiders?

Can someone please post that story, thank you.

One of the peace officers was out writing speeding tickets in Frank last evening.Be careful out there. We are about to turn into Longview.

As I was returning to Bellevue yesterday around lunch time he was giving someone a ticket at that time in Frank too.

That's okay. If you don't speed you don't get a ticket right.

At $850 a day wouldnt it be cheaper to train our Peace Officers in shooting gophers? I can see it now. A rear tailgate graphic that reads "Peace Officer/Gopher Control".

its about time someone policed the frank area i dont know how many time people have roadraged on me for doing the speed limit there.

Anon 11:09 You are right, simply do not speed and you will not get a ticket. But why do we have RCMP and sheriffs? Is it not their job to patrol the highways? What if the province now says we can get by with less RCMP in this area due to the fact that our peace officers are doing the RCMPs job?I thought the number 1 reason for the peace officers was to enforce local bylaws. I do not see this happening.Has anyone got a fine for not having their yard cleaned up?
The problem is they are suppose to pay for themselves. So instead of doing what the intent of hiring these peace officers was, they will spend all of there time writing speeding tickets.
I think we need 1 peace officer whos job is to enforce our local bylaws.

Well, I think the RCMP are pretty stretched, considering the amount they must police. I believe they can use the help. I think once both peace officers are up and running it will be better for the by-laws.

But if they were hired to enforce the bylaws as the number 1 reason why are they sitting on the highway writing speeding tickets. And I do not think the RCMP are pretty streched. We live in one of the lowest crime rate areas in the province. And if we are stretched than let the province provide us with more RCMP.By the way you write a lot like a councilor that use to blog,,hmmm.

Keep writing those tickets guys, every ticket means a lost vote or two.

No, not a councillor, lol.
But here is not the only place they police; they go all the way to Chain Lakes. They have a huge area to enforce.

If the RCMP are short staffed then the province or the feds should provide more.
Council told us that the peace officers were hired to clean up the CNP by enforcing our bylaws. My guess is that the peace officers have been told they must write tickets to a quota amount in order to pay for themselves. We all know this is impossible writing tickets for our bylaws.I just think council should admit there mistake and go with 1 peace officer whos focus is on getting the CNP cleaned up and not spending his whole day writing speeding tickets to ensure he reaches his quota.

Peace officers write tickets all over Alberta. I still think having two is good.
The RCMP designates officers on population.
