Crowsnest Pass Feelings about the Federal Budget

Well another poll closes and here are the results:

Harper did the right thing 9 votes 52%
Should have spent more 0 votes
Not happy but they had no choice 3 votes 17%
Its terrible we will be in debt forever 5 votes 29%

I sure hope this plan of pumping taxpayers dollars into the economy works, especially after seeing January unemployment numbers in both Canada and the USA. (130,000 and 600,000 jobs lost). If it does not work we will be in big trouble and leave our kids and grand children the opportunity to pay for our mistakes

How can it work?

Obama spent almost two years running for the presidency, during which he laid out his plan for the nation and where he would take them with their help. A man with a vision having a nation behind him has a good chance of success, I think.

On the other hand, Harper and his conservative ideologues have been forced to develop a plan on the fly that is diametrically opposite of everything they believe in and espouse, and which has not been put to the test with the electorate. No real plan with no real support stands little chance of success, I think.

But don't worry, once your conservatives learn from their mistakes I'm sure they will have another plan that pumps even more money into the coffers of party hacks. After all, the philosophy of Bush and Harper has always been to give the billions to the rich… and now the middle class… while giving very little if anything at all to the poor… except leaving them the bill to pay for it all.

I agree, the future for ordinary Canadians does not look very bright at all, especially for our kids and grandchildren.

John when I talk about pumping dollars into the economy I am not just talking about Canada.
It will be interesting to see how well it works in Canada, the USA, China, Japan, Europe etc.
We can debate plans, philosophy our personnal belives all day long. And I pray that Obama's government works out because wheather we like it or not we are all tied to the US economy.

Dean,

My point is that Bush (Republicans), various conservative governments (eg. Ontario, Alberta, etc) and our own mayor (conservative) have one thing in common... a failed philosophy that has been a disaster whereever it has been applied. GREED
does not work! Except for a small minority at the expense of the majority.

America has learned that lesson and is taking steps to change things, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, we here in Canada, Alberta and the Crowsnest Pass, are still under the thumb of those who think and act as Bush has.

Until that all changes, there is little hope of a better future for ordinary folk in this country, in my opinion.

John, you are a dreamer. Obama is the "chosen one", a puppet of the Elitists, and his plan is to nationalize and socialize the US. Obama has to fall in line with his Elitist handlers and the Democratic Congress. The trillion
$ Stimulus Bill was prepared soley by the Democratic House. It is in fact a massive give-a-way spending plan with Democratic pet/pork barrel projects in disguise, with very little job creation. It a wish list of the items that the Democrats have wanted for years-- $400 million for sexually transmitted diseases for Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco friends and countless other goodies(golf club, frisbee park) that won't create jobs. Two thirds of the US people are against the so called Stimulus Plan, as it stands. The children and theirs will be paying for this spend-u-thon for years to come.

The US middle class has been wiped out by the Wall Street Banksters and Fraudsters who have moved back and forth from the Clinton and Bush Fed Govt to Wall Street planning the fleecing of America. That is now a done deal, with $700 BILLION lost in the Wall Street canyons. Next in line is third world status for the US.

At least our Fed program is helping all the people. Sure, Harper screwed up by not seeing that the economy was in trouble last autumn, but he'll do what is right for Canada.

Your friend Ignatieff is not the cure. He was trained under the Elitists in Great Britain from 1978-2000 and in the US from 2000-2005. His Global Elitist handlers coached him well and he has been sent back to Canada to do their bidding. Our Elitist Eastern liquor and shipping barons are tied into the Black Nobility and Queen, and the Rothschild and Rockefeller friends. They think little of any country or the common people, and money and power is their only love. Notice that Great Britain is now bankrupt, but the Queen's Bank of Scotland has been bailed out; and that all of GBs gold was sold for $260/oz, and guess who bought that?

As this all unfolds, we may all get to see what our parents lived through during the Depression. It looks like those who lived beyond their means will be hit the hardest.

Jose,

Like Lennon said, "You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one…”

I normally don’t reply to anonymous posts, but in your case I am going to make an exception.

People today want good news (think Flight 1549 that landed in the Hudson River) and change. Obama gives them both.

I don't agree with you that Obama is just the elites 'house nigger'. In fact, he is the first President in modern times who is not beholding to the lobbyists. That in itself is remarkable! And a good reason for hope.

With respect to the rest of your comments, a lot of what you say is true and the rest has been said by others (Gary Allen, for one). In fact, there is never a shortage of conspiracy theories to go around, and I won't attempt to argue with you one way or another on their merits. Except to say, that it was Benjamin Disraeli who a long time ago said, "Governments do not govern, but merely control the machinery of government, being themselves controlled by the hidden hand." Which I believe sums up pretty much what you have said.

I guess the only other thing I think you are dead wrong on is your assessment of Harper. At least our Fed program is helping all the people. Sure, Harper screwed up by not seeing that the economy was in trouble last autumn, but he'll do what is right for Canada.

For your information, our federal program hasn’t helped anybody yet, especially the ones in dire straights. Nor do I believe the way Harper and the conservatives have handled things to date, that it ever will help those in real need.

In conclusion, I am not as generous as you to forgive a leader, who despite having the educational background and training of an economist, failed to see what was happening and dragged his feet (and still is) behind most world leaders (and even prorogued parliament (Canada’s version of “… let them eat cake”, I’m going on vacation)). I have little tolerance or use for that type of leadership (sic) as some of my previous posts on my blog, Dean’s and others in the blogging community can attest to.

I will end by saying I hope you too can learn to dream... and hope... for a better future for all. In this regard, I leave you with...

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

John,
The theme song for Obama is more like Janet Joplin's "O Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz", rather than Imagine. After the town meetings Obama has held, everyone wants the free handouts -- and will get them. Goodbye America.

There aren't any lobbyists left in Washington now--Obama has hired or nominated them all--from the Health Secretary nominee who lobbied for health companies and didn't register or claim the income; to the tax-cheating Treasury Sec; to the CIA head who lobbied, didn't register and made 700k; to the Defense asst who was (is) a defense lobbyist; and to the Labor Sec nominee who believes all illegal aliens should get total govt assistance. CHANGE!!! --yeah Right.

You must have went to the woodpile for THE word. Didn't you know only black people can use that word now. In closing, John, you certainly have a good political knowledge and ability. Too bad you have run out of Parties to join -- maybe the Messiah needs a northern branch -- but don't use the "n" word when you call him......

Jose,

Don't you know, or remember, the 'free handouts' as you call them, is what got the states out of the last great depression? It worked then, it might work again?

The body of your post I will ignore because, Hey! Give Obama and the administration a chance before you start crucifying him and hanging his administration out to dry. I believe everybody (despite their so called past... misadventures :-)) should be given a chance to prove themselves, before the corporate media propaganda brainwashing machine kicks into high gear. All the while pushing for an outcome of 'their' choosing rather than ours. Give him and the boys a chance to show their stuff. After all, we can always hang them later if they screw up :-))

With respect to the use of my black brothers moniker. In my younger days, I was a blue eyed soul brother. So I'm entitled. :-)

In closing, I appreciate the compliment...you certainly have a good political knowledge and ability... but in all seriousness... no more than you.

We'll see how Obama treats Canada during his visit to Ottawa this week. He favors dropping NAFTA; Buying American; a low carbon footprint--oops for Canada; a surge in Afghan; and moving into our Arctic domain. This will be a test for Harpo --from a Bushite to Obamite, or will he be Canadian?

Obama has now employed more than a few Media types -- a payoff for their one-sided reporting and Obama lovefest during the campaign. There is no corporate media to worry about--the Fed Govt has taken over the financial and other industrial companies, and has moved the US into European Socialism in one fell swoop. And we know how Europe is doing! Small businesses in the US, the backbone of the country, are next to be screwed over. Someone has to pay the piper.

Obama's Stimulus Trillion $$ plan is more a wish list of pork projects off the shelf, and a social re-engineering rather than job creation. An $8 BILLION fast train from LA to Vegas is a joke, and that money would create a lot of jobs for the "common folk".

How will this be paid for? -- well, those people that lived within their means, skipped their vacations, paid their mortgages and taxes, and kept their credit card purchases current now get taxed to death to pay for those that shouldn't or couldn't have bought houses, or took out their house equity and spent it, lived the good life, maxed out their credit cards, and now are crying to be bailed out. Only in America!!

Let's hope that the social safety net in Canada holds up and the PC Stimulus plan keeps the economy above water. The upcoming turmoil south of the border has to be kept there. The USA is headed for the biggest train wreck in history.

John, Obama may mean well even as the most leftist man in the Senate, but the Democratic dimwits he has in Congress are trying to make up for years of being in the barrel. Now it's their turn, and anything and everything goes. We should be glad that Canada has a constant changeover in MPs and leaders, as well as a minority govt. Their corruption is peanuts compared to that South of the border.
