Interesting Quote

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it.. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it --Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan also said "People look to the Government for the solution, BUT THE GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM". The more we the people expect and receive from all levels of Govt, the less say we have in their operations. Voting them out is the only answer, but the goodies received are such that we keep voting them back in -- or just don't bother to vote anymore. We get what we deserve......

Why do people keep quoting Reagan? He started the tradition of creating the largest number of budget deficites and the largest overall debt increase in the history of the US..... until, that is G.Bush Jr. came to town..... now Obama is trying to top that.
The problem is not bigger government or smaller government... it is ethical government. We teach Machiavelli ideas as 'the way to be successful' in gov't then we are baffled when scandald and dishonesty crop up (the same holds true for private business.... anyone got bankers these days?).
I'd like to see some of the following from Mr. Ward and the rest of our leaders and its simple.
Leadership....
Honesty....
and most importantly.... creative vision for our community to create sustainable growth. its really not that hard.... here's some simple ideas:
- we have wind here... make it profitable. We buy wind turbines from Europe.... no opportunity here?

- We fought to protect an aquifir form the dreaded CN evil doers... so we have really good water.... we can't make that profitable (bottled water? Brewery? Distillery??)

- We claim to have more concentrated wildlife than most other places in N.America... yet we do not create R&D and education centres that exploit and use what we already have here?

Now if I can come up with simple stuff like this, which seems viable to implement if we had the political and community will.. whay can't the pros?

Just some thoughts.... Dean I think you're still doing a hell of a good job, but remember, we must also create and inspire as much as we cut/budget and conserve. The first part is harder... but worth more.
