Community Standards Bylaws Crowsnest Pass

Last night at our council meeting Councilor Cole requested that the Community Standards bylaw be brought forth on Feb 23th.
He also requested that any member of Council, or administration bring forth comments, suggested changes etc to the bylaw. I would love to hear from any member of the public that has suggestions regarding this bylaw. Personally I would like to have whatever changes are required made prior to Summer.

You can read the present bylaw at the following address:

Its the third from the bottom labeled Community Standards Bylaw 534

Pigs will fly when this happens, but since it's the elephant in the room (or in this case Blairmore) I'll mention it. Can the community standards bylaw be changed so that, let's say for example, the Mayor could be charged. He has all those cars on his property (and a neighbour's) and they just look awful. If that isn't an example of what this bylaw represents, I don't know what is.
My understanding is that he gets around the bylaw by having the cars ....I don't know exactly how this works....but they are registered as fleet vehicles (or something like that).

So, what company owns this fleet? Why does this company need this fleet? ....most of which seem to have flats or no tires. And how can he park his fleet at his home in a residentially zoned area?

Can someone clarify this?

Maybe we could get him on the TV show 'Hoarders'.

It seems that the bylaw does cover cars like the mayor has in his yard.If the wording is not strong enough, then change it so it is strong enough. Then charge him and force him to comply along with everyone else with major messes. But it must start at the top.
But bear in mind that this could effect a lot of people. Is it so bad to have 1 fixer upper in your yard?Where do you draw the line?

Can anyone tell me why the mayor does not have to clean up his yard?
What a mess....I think he needs to move to an acreage so he can have all the vehicles he wants and can hide them in the back 40. Oh Yeah, he would not like to pay the taxes that the municipality charges country residential.

Right on! I think the previous posters are correct, start with the mayor's place as for sure it's violating this bylaw. Start at the "top" and work down. I am tired of looking out my window and seeing junk in neighbour's yards. It's time to clean up!

To Anonymous #4 -- Community Standards must apply to all properties in the Pass. I live on a Country Residential acreagae, and the last thing I and my neighbours want, is some slob with a collection of junk cars moving in next door. The mayor can stay where he is, just make him, and those like him, clean up their disgusting messes.

I am a weekender in the Pass. I have heard so much about the mayor's collection of cars that I am just dying to see it in person. Can anyone tell me his address so I can show my friends when we come down for the weekend?

Just east of the Forestry Office you can not miss it, its the one with all the old cars in front of it, also check out the back alley what used to be a swimming pool is now a scaled down version of Devlins

Opulently I agree but I contemplate the collection should have more info then it has.

Wonder if they mayor reads blogs, especially blogs that point out his total lack of respect for the community he governs.

If this bylaw is not enforced it may be time to get Municipal Affairs involved. I am sure they will find it very interesting that no one will enforce it because the mayor is one of the worst offenders.

This council like all the rest is just stalling for time, they won't do anything about the mayor's yard, and the many unsightly premises scattered like weeds throughtout the Pass. Even shaming them as I am doing won't move them.

Too bad you can't grow weed like they do in Grand Forks. The Mayor there makes his living off of it but at least his yard is tidy!
PS: HAHAHAHAHA

Phew, I could use a snack!

Many of our eyesores violate the Traffic Bylaw:
-parking on sidewalk/boulevard.
-parking over 72 hours.
-parking unattached trailers.
but I can't get these enforced. Some of these would apply to JI.

"No person shall cause, permit or allow Animal Material, Ashes, Building Materials,
Garbage, Junked Vehicles or Yard Material to collect, accumulate or be upon lands..." There are many examples of this in CNP, residential, commercial, the municipal yards. But again no enforcement in spite of complaints.

"In areas of
irregular mixed zoning, current collective standards as well as permitted and discretionary
land uses will be considered."
Translation: the slobs set the standards, if you live in an older area don't bother complaining.

Check out this:
Google Street View boon for real estate agents
"A P.E.I. real estate agent is excited about the opportunities now that Google Street View is available for the province.

Google launched a major expansion of the service this week with new coverage in every province and including long stretches of highway.

But it is the urban features of Street View that most interests Joel Ives, owner of Century 21 in Charlottetown. Ives told CBC News the mapping software is particularly useful for people from off-Island looking for a home on P.E.I.

"It allows people to show what is around the house that is for sale in the neighbourhood," said Ives.

"You're able to look at the houses on each side, across the street, and what the full neighbourhood offers. Parks, and other things, and also the quality of housing that could be your new neighbours."
When does Google Streetview get to CNP?

I see Google StreetView has already been. The neighbours of this dump get big reductions in their property taxes - of course this means higher taxes for everyone else. How many situations like this do we have?

I was amazed to read in the Promoter that Council permitted a construction company to operate on residential streets in Bellevue. Do you think they would give me a permit to camp out on the streets in a trailer? Then I could sell my house and not pay any tax! Some street in Crowsnest Estates or Pineview would be nice.

It also amazed me that people believed in the $billion RiverRun luxury resort, but it never occured to anyone to notice what their view will be. First the riverbank is made of rubble, pipe, rotting timber and even old cars. Then there is the unpaved road, but not to worry, we spray oil on it to keep the dust down. Then there is our beautiful Municipal yards and too many junky places to mention, all the way to the BCMI (interspersed with a few well kept homes).
