River Run Vistas Investors Meeting Update

I see my fellow blogger beat me to it  http://blog.johnprince.ca/ but here it is the audio from the River Run Vistas Meeting on the weekend.www.adita.com/mintoft/mintoft.html

I do feel bad for the investors, I hope they can come up with a resolve that works for them and gets some of their money back. Mr Mintoft comes across as a very smooth talking sales man but then so did the two fellows he used to be in business with, (well technically still is). But the investors will do whats best for them, there is one part of the tape where it sounds like he is going to talk to the municipality about the outstanding taxes. That concerns me especially now the bylaw to increase the penalties on back taxes as gone through first reading. Will the old timers on a fixed income be given a break on those outstanding taxes because they made some poor choices.

So far all this council has done is take, take, take with more talk of taking even more. They have done nothing in the way of attracting new business to this community either directly or indirectly. The Promoter's recent poll suggests their recent town hall meeting was a flop, which suggests they either do not have the pulse of the community, or they cannot communicate a message of hope that the people can believe in? Maybe its because, as I have already stated, all they do is take, take, take while giving us back little to nothing.

If they go through with this Bylaw to increase tax arrears to a usury and criminal 50%, they will have a revolt on their hands come next election that they will regret. Now that is something they can take to the bank!

Dean, below is a link to a post I did recently that I should have included in my last comment above, about council's latest 'brainwave' idea on increasing the late payment fee on property taxes from 20% to a 'criminal' 50%...

Mr. Mayor, 50% of nothing is still nothing

Of the subject here is some interesting reading

http://www.crowsnestpasspromoter.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3385896

The CAO must obviously have the support of council to proceed with this. Or is he going against councils wishs?

Why have boards? just send these issues to council let them make a decision, woops two council members were there.

Two councilors sat on that board and supported that application what is their position today?
Will they stand with the rest of the sub division board and support there decision in front of the appeal board?

Maybe they need a policy put in place to deal with this issue?

I would not have a problem giving these guys some sort of break on their back taxes if they came in and built 300 homes in the next three years. Council don't even think about it if they are going to build 10-15 houses a year.

Thats why you guys have nothing down there in the Crowsnest. You should bend over backwards to help these investors get this thing going. Bring new people (plus new 21st century thinking replacing the hick mentality) in to your community.
Plus increase the tax base.

I totally agree with the above comment about getting into the 21st century. They are like dinosaurs down here. No change wanted. All you have to do is look at the empty buildings and you can see that council is definitely not getting it. A year is a long time -something could be done if they had initiative. Meanwhile, the businesses that ARE here should perhaps make more of an effort to be engaging. Unbelieveable the attitude of most of the service people. Some of good, but I bet 90% are AWFUL, ..um crabby lets say.

And to Mike L. Yes, there are problems but Crowsnest is a beautiful place to live, mountains out each of my windows. Blairmore has everything that you need, usually within walking distance. We just need to put more pressure on the council. We are not unique in this regard I don't think.

When is this council going to do something about the industrial cleanup. When you drive past Sentinel you see that god awful mess. Then you pull in to Blairmore and see all that crap across from the Mall.
You wonder why people live in the Elk Valley I do not know of any where over there that you have those kind of crap piles. Do not worry about bringing the Pass into the 21st century think about the
20th first.
