Just a matter of 10 days ago my fellow blogger Mr Prince put out the news that the word on the street was we were getting a Holiday Inn. At last council meeting CAO Thompson announced that negotiations were going very well with the developer and should be wrapped up in a couple of weeks. Well last night the CAO gave another update negotiations are still going well and should be wrapped up in the next 30 days.
I hope we are not being led down the garden path, anybody hear anything about the Quebec manufacturer lately? I suspect bargaining with the developer is down to that key area now? money and municipal concessions.
Note: Does not look like the Centre will be gone prior to first snow fall. Or was that just one of the items "that can be taken with a grain of salt"

Becker and Bradley would be proud.I wonder if the charade can be kept up until Oct.
I would like to believe in the hotel and the manufacturing plant coming to the CNP but my gut is telling me that negotiations do not take that long.I hope I am wrong.
My prediction- they will have the centre knocked down by Sept 1,2013. There will be a hole in the ground by Oct 1,2013 preparing for footings for the """Hotel""" with the promise of much more to come in 2014-2016 if the present council is allowed to carry that momentum forward and conclude the strategic plan.

I wonder if the other councils had the pressure involved here. There has been really nothing that significant done, ever.
I am sure it all takes time. Did not realize there was a time line.
The time line and expectations were created by the Mayor and administration. The Mayor threw out the "before the first snow falls at the town hall meeting" having said that he did qualify every thing he said "with you can take that with a grain of salt" Dean is right on those comments. The Mayor speaks every Monday on CJPR about the hotel and up until the last couple of weeks the Quebec manufacturer. Administration speaks every council meeting about an agreement being close.
So who is creating the timelines and expectations?
Yes, I guess he was trying to get everyone off his back. He should have not made a time line. No other council before has.
To claim that nothing "this significant" was ever done on the Crowsnest Pass is just plain silly. ???
What would be bigger than getting Holiday Inn plus a manufacturing company. What else has ever compared to that. Maybe Tim's...
In the meantime, word has it that Super Value (Extra Foods) will be closing their doors soon, either by Christmas or shortly thereafter in the New Year.
And the hits keep on comin'.

Manufacturing plant would be very good. No one should sit on the edge of their seat thinking about it too seriously. Holiday Inn will be nice. But get real, most significant ever?
" Does not look like the Centre will be gone prior to first snow fall." Let's cut the guy some slack here. He didn't specify what exotic location it had to snow in. I would think that if you buy a snowblower in this imaginary place and it snows more than 1" on January 1st you get it for free and any ice can be gotten rid of "with a grain of salt".
Could be other reasons why SuperValu is closing. It is busy so if, if, if, if, (rumor has it) it is closing could be the company itself; maybe they will renovate and open bigger and better.
Extra Foods emposes it's standards and leases, when they come due, must be resigned...

"renovate and open bigger and better"
The roof trusses of that historic structure are made of short sticks nailed together - not a good idea for the bottom chord, which is under tension. This has been corrected by many braces and supporting posts, some added recently.
This could be a metaphor for something.
With respect to my previous comment above:
Having got it on good authority today from both management and staff that one of their employees and some customers were spreading false rumours about Super Value closing their doors a retraction has been made.
Super Value is NOT closing, after all.
