I just commented that the "© Queen's Printer for Ontario" link at the bottom of those pages says:

"If credit is given and Crown copyright is acknowledged, the materials may be reproduced for non-commercial purposes."

I don't see that in the "Overview" slide show.

And pages 20-30 seemed to be copied from that website.

The "smoking gun" for plagiarism would be to find from where they copied the chart on page 21 with the CNP logo on it.

There is a similar chart near the bottom of this page:

I heard the mayor on the ratio today. He said that previous councils would not step up to the plate regarding the Fire plan. So they finally had to do it. He also mentioned that it is going to save $100,000 per year, $1,000,000 over ten years, money that we need. Also, mentioned a "couple" of bloggers out to get him. Hummm, probably makes people see that everything is not as negative as some portray.

How is the plan going to 'save' the community $100,000 a year? Perhaps in Never Never Land with Pete and Tink, but not in the CNP.Surely the residents are ignoring this nonsense. Take care.

At first there were claims the press was not fair, now the bloggers are out to get him. Certain type of people are susceptible to paranoia. They are easy to find in our history books and usually history is not very kind to them. As far as the fire department is concerned, taxpayers are not stupid. A better story is needed because the " money saving" angle does not work. They want consultants bring all the solutions and "other" people take the blame, whenever something does not work out. Not nice.

Hopefully the Mayor is right. That $100,000 will amazing enough pay for one additional administrator.
Or are they being paid for by the extra $500,000 in Franchise fees we will pay this year versus 2010.

Watch out the bloggers are coming to get you.

Anon @2:12 or anyone else...
What exactly did the mayor say about a "couple of bloggers out to get him"?

Anonymous said...

He did not really say the two bloggers were out to get him; just that they kept people going and sometimes not with the correct facts.

"He also mentioned that it is going to save $100,000 per year, $1,000,000 over ten years"

Poor math here or a hidden adgenda. With just the fire chief and his assistant equating to half a mill in just 5 years the only way to to make his goal of future savings would be by making massive cuts in order to protect their possistions.

Brace oneself for 'when the smoke clears'. There may be a study and requisition for a multi million dollar, centralized, fire/rescue hall down the road.

If so, where are the savings.

Most of the "saving" is from not buying these:

Aerial Projection $450.000.00 2012/2013
Tanker Projection St 25 $200.000.00 2014
(page 80 of the Overview)

It seems we needed these, but after closing Hillcrest and "restructuring" the others, we don't need them.

"He did not really say the two bloggers were out to get him; just that they kept people going and sometimes not with the correct facts."

You have hit on an important point. Do you, youself, have the 'correct facts'? And if not, don't you ever wonder if these numbers whipped up by consultants and hired administrators contribute to push an adjenda?

Dean does do his research and althought his numbers may not be exact, due to the limit of information, it does give one a chance to pause and reflect.

On Oct 13 there may be a hint of transparency.

First they bring in Consultants to find the problems.
Then they hire administrators to fix them, then they have to find the SAVINGS to justify themselves.
October we clean house at both the leadership/admin levels.
Nobody yet has told me what was wrong with the Fire Departments. In 2003 they received so much praise yet less than 10 years later they were seriously broken?
Did things really go that bad???

Never mind the 2510 voters who signed the petition and the revived Ratepayers Association - it is really a couple of bloggers whipping up “dumb” residents who just don’t know anything and must be told by the municipal office which way is up. Director of Protective Services (does he get a pickup?) - Fire Chief (Command pickup) - Deputy Fire Chief (Subcommand pickup) – yep, we will save some money by not buying a useless ladder truck. One can always put ladders and buckets on the back of the new and shiny pickup trucks. That should account for the million, over a million years.

Anonymous said...

No, first they say " here is what I want, now what problem can I use to justify hiring the Consultant. Then the Consultant is given the result they want."

There was nothing wrong with the fire departments that a little tweaking couldn't fix. The Mayor had to have a kickoff to show that he was the Man. With that, he just kept rolling and still is. Won't stop until he and his council rubber stampers are turfed. Only solution.

Off topic- 200,000$ to build 2 signs for the CNP.This is crazy.I spoke to a local builder not too long ago and was told to build a house it now costs about 200/sq.ft.So each sign at 100,000 divided by 200 comes out to be 500sq.ft. So these signs could be a small house with a basement, kitchen, bathroom etc.The point I am trying to make is that we are spending way to much on a couple of signs.Who is getting rich off of this? Why is it so easy to spend other peoples money(come on councilors, pretend it was your money).

Anonymous said...

Anon. 8:39 , you are on topic. It is probably safe to assume someone is working on a spin to present the entire rebranding scheme as a ten year plan to save money.

I am willing to bet that there will be another really good wine and cheese party in the future.

Hey Dean, What's the cost for the CFO's new "document filing system"?
I heard someone speculate it will be $60- 70,000, plus support, plus training and conversion.
There was no mention of costs @ the G&P, AND not one of the council asked how much.
Any idea?

Anonymous said...

Hmm, I recall the Mayor bragging about the new computer/software two years ago at the Town Hall meeting - with puffed chest- and giving that as a reason for the high cost of operating and training. Could it be that the 2012 Rum Rummer Days high financing overloaded that system. Or is it that these guys are so damn inefficient and ineffective that they need MORE upgrades?

Just who are we. The city of Calgary?

Anonymous said...

Dean are you aware that they are also creating a position for the document share program, plus they created a permanent part time position in finance (What ever the hell that means). The position they eliminated in the warehouse that they were gloating about at the open house? If only you and the rest of the sheep knew the game that was being played there. LOL

A taxpayer who knows what's really going on!

We have inadvertently elected a “Bureaucrat” to lead us and he is doing only what comes naturally, or is it Naturally Rewarding?

It is apparent that the Administration and their staff have forgotten that they are there to support the field/outside staff, and not the other way around. Where will it end?
