More stuff we don't need in the Crowsnest Pass

Well it sounds like the problems are compounding.

I found the following post this morning concerning legal and more potential legal problems for the municipality.
Plus a further hang over from the highly successful weekend known has Rum Runner Days. Check it out for your selves.

But she is just another person, hoping for a council position. I think I will hold my opinion on this.

Anonymous @3:27. What you say does not make sense in relevance to the topic. So what if I want to run for council? Does that mean that I should not report on things happening around the Municipality? As a concerned citizen, I would think that means that I should have something to say about this community.

Tell me, what does yet another lawsuit have to do with my running for council in 2013??

"They have included the Municipality of the Crowsnest Pass, the Rum Runner Committee and especially the chairman in their grievances.

A bit of background on this issue:

This particular group was hired to perform. A contract was signed and agreed upon."

If the Rum Runner Committee was officially created by CNP or if it was incorporated as an Alberta Society then its members might have some immunity from personal liability. But Saindon insists it is "neither".

Reading the Mayor’s latest newsletter - it does not look like the Thunder in the Valley is coming back any time soon. There also appears to be a wish to pass the buck along to someone else. How did all these less accomplished local yokels manage to put up such a world class event without an Exhibition Board? Let’s create a new board that reports to council, and then things will take care of themselves. That is how they do things in the real world. Oh?

People can always complain when they are not the ones who must make the decisions.
You can have different people, but nothing ever changes in that regard. People criticize whoever makes the decisons, as if they are the only ones that know the right answers or solutions.

That's what I would like to know.

Any Councillors reading this, did you vote to spend taxpayers money and use municipal resources and employee time or authorize anyone to sign contracts with "entertainment groups"?

If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen... or start making better decisions.

If the contract was clear that the band was to be paid in full with no clause for any circumstances to pay less than the full amount then it must be paid in full.It is that simple.
As for Thunder, council has lied to us. They told us they were deferring it for 1 year. They should have been working out all of the problems will all of the groups involved. This has not happened. Council knew all along that Thunder would never happen as long as they were in power.WHY??

Anonymous said...

Why should Council be involved with organizing TITV or deciding whether it happens or not? The Mayor is absolutely right that the Municipal government's role is to establish the necessary rules and by-laws to ensure such activities are conducted in a safe manner. While Council can play a role by encouraging these types of event (which it has done), it should not be involved in organizing them. If the population of the Pass wants TITV, then make it happen. However, don't expect the Municipality to subsidize it, and expect to abide by all the appropriate by-laws. Does Calgary city Council organize the Calgary Stampede? Of course not.

If it was just a question of funding, then why didn't you say so? I'm sure arrangements could have been made.

Instead you arbitrarily killed TITV that was for 18 years running, until you guys showed up, abiding by all the bylaws. What gave you the right? And why have you been lying to us from day one?

Your actions speak louder than words and what they say is you guys failed to negotiate in good faith, failed to manage and failed to delegate. In other words, you plain failed us in all respects. Losers, now looking for excuses to justify their failures.

Sad, and duly noted by all!

Anon 7:31, I agree with you, however why did council get so heavily involved in it this year? Why did they not just tell all of the user groups here are the rules and tell them they must follow them?Council screwed thunder royally, tried to take over and run RR days and screwed that so bad that now they have to reverse course and say it is not our job.We had this huge event and council shut it down. The fireman did not shut it down. The rr comittee did not shut it down.
As for Calgary city council, you are right they do not organize it, but they do support it in every way and would never consider stopping the show.
Our council went out of there way to shut it down instead of working with the groups to keep this going.

"You and Dean can quit gloating anytime now. You both wished it turned out to be a disaster and it was, Happy now!!!!!"

First of all I would of responded sooner but I was on holiday. But I am back now.
Why on earth would I be "gloating" I have lived in this town for almost thirty years. Why would I "gloat" over seeing the number one reason the Crowsnest Pass was put on the map flushed down the toilet?
(The Mayor said this himself at a council meeting last year)
Why would I "gloat" over the municipality spending tens of thousands of dollars to put on a event that everybody in town knew (with the exception of 10-12 people) was going to attract at best a few thousand people?

No I am not happy how this weekend turned out, and neither are about ninety percent of the people I have spoke to. No I am not happy a lot of taxpayers money was spent that weekend. Bellcrest and Coleman receive $5,000 to help put on a "Family Orientated" weekend.
What do I predict next year? maybe an attempt to rekindle the TITV but somewhere in the spring negotiations between the BFD and the municipality will break down and a "pyrotechnics" outfit will be brought in to save the day. Just my opinion.

One last question for anonymous, TITV was cancelled on March 6 by motion of council. Over the concerns raised about safety in meeting with the RCMP and the ongoing costs of the event.
Those same meeting would have happened prior to 2011 TITV between the RCMP and council, the cost issues would have been no different than 2012. Why was 2011 TITV not cancelled? (Sorry deferred)

It now appears that the entertainment group has been paid in full. The question should be; Why did you try to stick it to them in the first place? or did you think they would just walk away quietly.More egg on the face for the CNP.

Anonymous said...

After this council took upon itself to save the Crowsnest Pass from itself by cancelling the Thunder in the Valley – now they find that they should not be involved in the staging of community events. Can someone save us from this council?

Anonymous said...

Or, was it all a CNP "infamous
rumor to begin with. We have no shortage of them.

Crowsnest Pass Home said...

I am told that the band is now paid in full.
I assume it would be very easy for somebody to proceed legally against Sasha if this was not true!
She posted it on her blog in plain English for everybody to read.

Sasha JaegerBaird said...

Legal action against me!?!? lol Okay I give... for what?

Stating the facts?

I do not perpetuate rumor. I like to deal only in cold, hard and concrete facts.

For those who doubt, I feel sorry for you. You most likely doubt many things unless YOU see them personally as facts.

For those that may be wondering how I know that they group in question has been paid in full:

I have been in personal contact with them. They informed me that they recently received a cheque in the mail.

Should be end of that subject now.

Anonymous said...

Not sure why Sasha would be in contact with them. And yes, it was a rumor. They were paid.

What was a rumor? The threat of a lawsuit from the "entertainment group"?

No rumor there. I have the the actual email from the head of the group, stating that if they do not get paid they were threatening a lawsuit.

Why would I be in contact with them? Well, an easy question to answer. I was on the RR committee and was asked to find several entertainment groups to perform at RR Day's.

Groups were found, discussed at RR committee meetings, decisions made to hire them, consequently they were hired and contracts signed.

I acted as the go between the groups and the committee.

So I think I would know the facts.

Why would they message me and tell me that they got he cheque? Well, I was trying my best to help sort the situation out for all parties concerned, as it had been my responsibility.

Once they received the cheque in thier hands, they let me know.

Okay. Now is that end of the subject? Or does anyone else have any questions?

Seems to me to be a dead issue.

BTW to whoever you are, do NOT question my integrity.

I am an open book. Unlike some people and councilors.

Anonymous said...

Well it may indeed be over, but not because you say so. Most people do not have the luxury of saying it is over and that is it.
And if you must tell people you have integrity...uuuuum.

Sasha JaegerBaird said...

All I was trying to convey is that at least one of the many things hanging over this valley seems to have come to a favorable close.

Considering all the recent issues and problems, we should be grateful for anything that has a favorable ending.

Oh and Anonymous at Fri Sep 21, 11:24:00 AM 2012

Reread what I said. I only said not not question my integrity.

Seems some people see only what they want to see, when they hear or read something. Nothing new there. Especially around here. This place likes it rumor mill. If it were not for rumor, many people would most likely have nothing better to do with themselves. Sad indeed.

Then when someone tries to clear up the rumor, these same people try to discredit or diss that person.

More same old, same old.

Good thing, most people have a good head on their shoulders and can see past the crap. It restores my faith in humanity.

"I am an open book."

You talk about "people" but you don't name names. Didn't all this happen in meetings that were open to the public?

Sasha said...

Many names have been named. Do you not follow all the Blogs??

Yes, all meetings were open to the public. Everyone was welcome.
