Municipal communications

All I have heard over the last little while is a number of people raving over the great job the municipality is doing communicating with the public.
Well I hope this is not being held up as an example of that, the Open House is tomorrow night and is being advertised on Facebook 33 hours in advance. I have not seen it advertised anywhere else so not a big deal. I assume the six people that will read this between today and tomorrow that have no prior plans for tomorrow night will attend.
Should be a big turn out to replace the now ancient "Mountain Freedom" brand.

Community Branding Open House
September 26th, 2012 6:00-8:00pm
Elks Hall, Blairmore

The Municipality invites residents to be a part of the development of the brand for Crowsnest Pass. This initiative is well underway and we need your assistance in reflecting the needs and values as well as economic opportunities and priorities for our community. A Open House will be held on September 26 at the Elks Hall in Blairmore from 6:00 to 8:00. This Forum is open to everyone and will serve to provide a summary of the background research conducted as well as to gain your impressions and feelings about the thematic areas emerging from the research. These themes and your impressions will form the foundation of the creative branding work to follow. Please come and join us and be part of this process.

You just have to go to the Municipal website, navigate to the bottom of the page where you will see a scroll pane. Scroll down about half way and then click on "see more".

Communication.

Why have it the same night as the health care meeting at the lions hall?

Which one do I go to?

Some of us have a life and need to have some notice in order to make meetings. Clearly they don’t want people to attend.Wonder if there will be armed guards at this one too.

When I went on it was right there. Odd.

Dean, obviously the handling of this event has not been done well. However, let's put some things in perspective, by asking the question: has the level of communication between Council and the electorate improved with this Council versus any of the previous Councils? I think any fair-minded observer will have to admit that the efforts made by the current Council are an immense improvement over any Council in living memory. So why do we still have people bitching about lack of transparency? It seems there is a group of people, yourself included, for whom this Council can do nothing right. You're obviously in full campaign mode, but I don't understand the rest of you.

Dean, I really give you credit for putting all the comments on. I agree with Anon 7:59, I do not think in some people's eyes that Council could ever do anything right, no matter what. It seems I remember everyone wanting them to go on Facebook and get with the real world. Well, they did.

Dean these guys are communicating on Facebook.
In a very young community like Ft Mac that would be a big deal.
The problem with these guys is the miss information they are telling us.
Demolition before first snow fall? No tax increases? Transportation system, Affordable housing, Thunder in the Valley, Safety and Costs, Quebec manufacturer? that's just a start.

Just read Londsbury's comments in the Promoter can not believe them.
I bet every senior wishes they had a gold plated government pension.

7:59 and 8:30 you think communications are good. Contact the municipal office and ask for the email addresses and phone numbers of "YOUR" councillors.
Then will send you an email address that goes to administration.

I think overall communication is better.
But why give less than 2 days notice about a public meeting? Is it an emergency meeting? No it isnt. They just do not want you there. They do not want your ideas. But they want to have a meeting so that later on they can say that you had your chance to voice your opinion at the meeting.
The funny thing is very few people actually care about this Branding and they have a meeting. Why did they not have a meeting about Thunder, people actually cared about that.
So communication is better, you just have to be aware of which side of theirs mouths they are speaking from.

We have only had the Mountain Freedom Brand for a few years, why change now?

I wonder if something else might be up. To call a meeting on such short notice just does not make sense.Maybe there will be an announcement tonight, hot off the press that we have a deal with a manufacturing company or a hotel deal.

"Thunder in the Valley" and "Mountain Freedom" is our brand! And will be again... after the next election. When we take back what has been hijacked from us by those who know not what they do.

So how much will it cost the taxpayers to replace this previous brand.
How much does it cost to send out the Mayor's propaganda each month.
Real nice to see some of the Councillors have found a voice on this Franchise Fee issue.
Talking of communications why don't the Councillors post anything on their blogs any more?

I am good at branding. I worked cattle for many years. What brand would council want to wear? I am heating the forge and have the iron ready. Be quick as the franchise fees on the Nat Gas are killin me. Make good on your instant "press release" tonight. I am running out of salt.

I was one of the 10 folks there.

The consultants handed out a 2 page list of bullet points from their researches, most of which can also be found in the Mayor's Task Force and the Strategic Plan.

By the time Bruce spins that. It will be a "good cross reference of the community at large"
