I am told that some time in just a matter of days we will be receiving another rousing issue of the Mayor's corner, gloating about all the good things they have done or going to do for our community.
Keep in mind this is an election year, the local politicians at least the one's seeking re-election will be spending the next seven months convincing us that they are critical to maintaining the "momentum" moving forward. Come September/October we are going to hear again and again how important it will be that there be continuity within the council ranks. To keep the confidence of the Coal miners, Hotel developers, Quebec manufacturers, and to conclude the Annexation process in our community.
I believe that the people in the Crowsnest Pass are too smart to buy this very old political game. At the end of the day is any company that's serious about spending ten's of millions up to $5-600 million to develop mines, hotels, or manufacturing plants in the Crowsnest Pass, going to back out because the make up of council changes? I don't think so.
If local council's were that important to this process wouldn't the Riversdale group have the MD of Ranchlands council on board?
Note: Latest Update on the Crowsnest Centre Site From the Pass Promoter's very own Joni MacFarlane
A large construction company has just been awarded the sale and contract of the former Crowsnest Centre site.
Council voted unanimously on Jan. 22 to enter into a sale and construction agreement with Medican General Contractors.
Started in Medicine Hat as a concrete company, Medican began building single-family homes and condominiums and was one of the first builders to introduce luxury condos for homeowners aged 40 and up.
They’ve now expanded across the country with completed condo developments in Quebec, Saskatchewan, B.C. and Alberta.
The municipality said details of the sale would be released to the public shortly.

I am glad the ball is rolling - no matter what. As some people have said, previous councils did not exactly set the CNP on fire either.
Waiting for the announcement, exciting.
Next election, all I want are people that are not in bed with anyone - no matter who they are. One thing you must admit, this council and mayor had guts.
The quaint old MGA says:
General duties of councillors
153 Councillors have the following duties:
...
(e)to keep in confidence matters discussed in private at a council or council committee meeting until discussed at a meeting held in public;
The proper handling of confidential information will be on the MA Inspector's agenda, as indicated in the Minister's letter.

The blind following the arrogantly stupid does ^not reflect guts.
Say what you wish every one of these guys that seeks office this fall will be successful. These people have brought us a Coal Mine, a major developer, and coming soon a major manufacturer.
The old antiquated ways of conducting business in this town are being flushed down the toilet. Good riddance and welcome to the 21st century Crowsnest Pass.

I agree with Misty. This council has done great things and the manufacturing plant will bring allot of much needed jobs. I understand Gallant is really pushing this so perhaps finally you (Dean) can finally get off the anti-Gallant train. I also hope the mayor runs again for even better things to come.
Misty and Paynze must be as green as grass to this community to think any member of this council has a chance in hell of getting back on council. They could bring the Taj Mahal here and it wouldn't do them any good. They're done like toast.
Well lets give credit where it is due. The mine is many years away and council gets very little credit. They did not buy this property because of anything that council did.6 members of council have not even spoken with any rep from the mine.
The hotel, this council gets a little credit but most of the credit goes to Dean Ward and the other 3 members of the fab 4.
IF we get a manufacturing plant and the details come out then we will pass judgement on who gets the credit.
All present councilors and the Mare have no chance of being re-elected.They have burnt way to many bridges and are not even trying to rebuild them.
This council has done a lot of damage, but they have done nothing that can't be fixed in a short order. October can't get here soon enough. Misty should take over the Rum Runner Days and raise money for the Fire Works. She seems dependable.
Well let's cancel the election right now and just re appoint these guys for four more years.
Only guts this council has is to spend to oblivion. Administration is out of control with no oversight. Let's elect this bunch again so we can go in to bankruptcy. Shell games underway on budgeting and expenditures.

NOTHING HAS HAPPENED
Are you delusional? Maybe a bit out of touch? How can you possibly make such ill informend statements? A bit scared that you may really believe in the ideology incorporated in that last post
After she is done with us - Misty is heading to Comedy Central.
It's rather irregular for the civil service branch of government (administration) to decide to stage a promotional meeting for a private company. Council has discussed an agenda, but has not formally called the meeting, AFAIK.
As usual the decision making process is totally opaque.
A FOIP request might shed some light:
Authorised agenda, minutes (and any notes taken) and list of invitees.
Documents showing authorisation (and by what legislative authority) for:
-Calling the meeting, appointment of the chairman and list of invitees.
-Expenses (and budget source) including waiver of usual rental fees for publicly owned facilities.
This is all public information that should be available without need for FOIP.
9;06,
Forget about a stint with Comedy Central. Lets all pettion her to get involved in next years Rum Runners Days.(with the proposed $14,000 budget) Can you just imagine her imaginary council, elected by aclimation, climbing out of a tiny car during the parade. Who needs clowns?
Don't think it will be much of a tourist draw, but if Bruce was stuffed in the trunk...
