With the possible return of Coal Mining to the Crowsnest Pass

Now we are all caught up in the possible return of coal mining to the Crowsnest Pass, there will obviously be debate for and against hopefully the public will be provided with all the necessary information to make informed decisions.
I was emailed  the following link today that offers some information on the "New" mine that Centermount Coal Ltd is attempting to develop north of Elkford.
It's from a group know has "kootenay Think Twice"  http://kootenaythinktwice.blogspot.ca/. If anybody on the other side of this issue would like me to post links to their information I would be glad to.

There will be a slick corporate presentation (held on Municipal premises and chaired by you-know-who). Other than that, we'll only get what we are legally entitled to.

In CNP I think there wont be anything until they apply for development permits, rezoning.

As for the mine site, there will be opponents who will dig out whatever information they legally can.

Everything so far has been done through unofficial channels. As far as I can tell, they have not done much that legally requires official authorization.

Riversdale is probably smart enough not to let out anything in writing they don't want disclosed by FOIP or loose lips.

I'm wondering what the property tax assessment on an open pit mine would be.

From what I can find it would be the value of land excluding minerals, buildings and fixed equipment (things like conveyor belts, I guess) but not trucks and loaders.

Seems to me it might not amount to much.

The assessment on this property is zero for the Crowsnest Pass. The mine will be in the MD of Ranchlands. Unless Bruce annexed the MD it will not bring us in one dollar to our tax roll.
I wonder if the MD evens knows that this is taking place and how they will or will not embrace it.

Anybody knows what kind of coal is found at the grassy mountain site, I was told today it mainly thermal coal anybody help me out on this.

My point is, if we annexed it, would it be such a big tax bonanza (considering that we would have to provide services to the area)?

I have some in a baggie that I mined from the pod, if you want to look at it.

to Dean Ward. The coal is bituminous and is used for the production of steel. Very good coal and much in demand.

Thanks for that info, obviously it makes a big difference if the coal is met versus thermal.
