"Before the first snow falls"

No I am not going to talk about a new Best Western hotel, opening another coal mine or annexing Ranchlands.
We are going to talk about phase 1 of the Decoux/Gallant re-election campaign. For those that have not noticed the security fences are up at the old hospital/nursing home site. A very good source tells me that the hazard material guys will start work next week, with the demolition guys a week or two behind. My source also tells me that the job will take some where around two months give or take a week. I am sure it is sheer coincidence that it could finish as early as the week of October 23.

Please take a moment and vote on the new poll on the right hand side.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Decoux/Gallant re-election campaign also, by sheer coincidence, would be finished as early as the week of October 23.

Just my thoughts.

I would not vote for Big Bruce or mini Bruce if they walked on water. They are not going to fool me with this expenditure of $600,000 of our tax dollars. The voters should not be surprised if we suddenly get a flurry of potential developers looking at the site over the next six weeks.

In the Mayor's Corner our Worship tells us the Hotel project is moving forward, even if it is doing so without a hotel developer. This is not spelled out clearly, but the taxpayers get the picture.

Further down the newsletter, and by some weird argument, our Mayor informs us the municipality decided to spend $50,000 to get into the hotel business. That is, since there is no hotel developer, taxpayers will put up $50,000 to reserve an application for a Best Western.

Is there some kind of guarantee the taxpayers will not be just hosed for $50,000? Of course not. At "best," the Best Western will commission another "hotel study," should a developer be found.

So what are taxpayers getting for their $50,000?

They are buying an opportunity for the Mayor to make a claim " the hotel project is moving forward," even if only with taxpayers money.

So, we are getting into hotel development business even as seasoned hotel developers take a pass at this great opportunity. Would our council vote to spend this money if it was coming out of their personal accounts? Not likely.

Taxpayers are not likely to be impressed with this kind of frivolous spending.

Your wrong Dean this is phase two. Phase one was our declining Insurance rates.

If anything this just enforces my dislike for this mayor and council even more. How dare they spend all our money this way without cosulting us cash cows first. They have no respect for our welfare. Every time I see these stupid unidentifyable logo banners it is a reminder of the waste of noney by this totally stupid administration. All they say to me is DON'T VOTE FOR THESE IDIOTS come election time.

Time to actually do something Bruce. Please deliver on our promised $100,000 Puppy Poo Park!

This can be your legacy.

I can offer free consultation and a product much superior, and acceptable, than any of your previous conceptual design presentations. (No wine and cheese necessary).

Of course a statue of you would be the center piece and also be the main focal point.

It's your last chance, Bruce, to establish something that draws traffic off the Hi-Way and really leaves a mark.

What do you think? Do we have a contract?

Neither of them have even confirmed plans to run again.

Anonymous said...

7:24 Do you think there is any possibility that their egos will allow them not to run. After all they are the only council we have ever had that did anything.

I guess if you throw enough mud (promises) at the wall sooner or later one will stick.

I find it a little confusing, that we couldn't invest in a fully functional bowling alley, but we can invest in a phantom hotel and banners in the breeze. Go figure.

This is akin to re arranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.

Next thing you will see: "due to the hard work of the Mayor and few councilors, Riversdale Resources is finally moving forward with its project.

There are also several parties interested in investing in the Crowsnest Pass, all we have to do is DEVELOP the rght set of policies to attract development.

Your council is committed to DEVELOP the best set of policies money can buy. This is what we mean by DEVELOPMENT. Re-elect us and we will continue with
our POLICY DEVELOPMENT."

Remember folks we are booming.
Hotels, mines, job creation (Municipal office).
Soon we will be called hotel alley home of Best Western, Holiday Inn, Trump Towers, Wynn, Caesars Palace North.

Just wait until the consultants report comes out on the labour relations situation at the municipality. Then you people will see what we have been going through.

It's really come down to the reality that it is just too late for these guys.
I sat here and wracked my brains about one good thing I could say about them. But I can't.
I felt when I and the rest of us voters put them in power. We could look forward to smaller government, less regulation and less taxation. Instead we got the opposite bigger government, more regulation and much more taxation.
I should have seen it coming when I read the Mayors Task Force's recommendation about maximizing revenues. Those are never good words for taxpayers to hear. Well the only redeeming factor its almost over.

Do the math.
The last council had 17 indoor workers and 27 outdoor workers. We now have 36 indoor workers, 6 outdoor workers and Volker Stevin doing much of the outdoor work.(outsource contract) This beauocratic government cannot continue as it produces nothing but policies that go nowhwere, cost us an arm and a leg. All this council has done is to take away our identity, erase our small town communities which comprise the entire crowsnest pass and sweep our mining heritage and history under the table. This type of governance has to be stopped. It is not sustainable and is insulting.

36 indoor workers. Holy smokes. I guess all that policy work needs a whole bunch of paper pushers. Sure praying our sewers can handle all this crap! Meanwhile, time for a new wheel alignment.

36 indoor workers and 6 outdoor workers is wrong. I do not know the actual numbers but I could name more than 6 outdoor workers. Does anybody know what the actual numbers are?
I will not vote for anyone on this council but when someone presents something that is totally wrong I think that it should be corrected.
