The timing is very interesting in the sense that the job does not close until Friday Sept 13, by the time you add on 2-3 weeks to sort through, short list and interview the applicants you are in to October.
My self being a person who is running for council and believes in a smaller bureaucracy this could be a very quick opportunity for the new council to reduce the cost of that bureaucracy by not refilling this position.
June 2011 CAO Tully Clifford leaves.
July 2011 Director of HR and legislative services Lynne Cox leaves.
September 2011 Director of Community Services Cam Mertz leaves.
April 2012 Fire Chief Ken Brands leaves.
June 2012 Manager of Operations Bob Schulz leaves.
July 2012 Manager of Corporate Services Mariann Martens leaves.
August 2013 Director of Protective and Community Services Albert Headricks leaves.
Please keep in mind the list above does not include people from Transitional Solutions that were in positions in a temporary role.
Note: Cost of administration $4325 per day

Dean, "Very interesting timing"
And what exactly do you mean by this?
About time they trimmed the fat
Knowing this council they will hire a new person and lock him into a contract thus tieing the hands of the next council. All major decisions from this point on should be tabled but I doubt our arrogant council will see it this way.
Let's not fool ourselves into thinking the sinister 7 will do the right thing by waiting for next council on this one, and we won't be disappointed again, and again, and again....
"This is a new position ..."
I guess that means they reused the old job posting without bothering to read it.
Well Mr. Headrick's stay was certainly short and sweet. I wonder if anyone else will be joining him on that bus out of town?
We have to be careful so Albert’s departure does not become an opportunity to assign blame for the botched fire department restructuring.
Albert was hired by the CAO and the Mayor to do what he was told and should not be blamed for policies which were made at the council table, or at the administrative meetings, whatever the claims may be.
Can't find much information about who invented these "off the record" administrative meetings, but municipal councils should not have gatherings were things are said and records are not kept. The quick official denial was very telling in itself.
7:45,
Your comment has sustenance.
The original hiring was questionable. I feel bad (after they directed him as to how our fire dept. should be restructured and then later, giving him charge of how our errant dogs and bad pussies fare) that they didn't give him his fire truck. He thought this was the answer to solving our fire dept. issues. A bit more due diligence and self reflection in their future hiring would be in order.
Watch these guys run around town now throwing Albert under the bus. "We knew there was problems in those areas" we never knew it was this bad.
The big question here is this just the first sign of council righting the good ship USS Decoux prior to the election. Or just preparing to put in the place the right team for the next Mayor (Brian)

The Hotel Development press release sure reads like a record of a meeting.

Who is next. Do not lose sight of the fact that these guys were just following orders. This is an hollow attempt to appease the CUPE staff. In a small town like this they are related to half the community.
The question still is who is next?
11:28. They hired expensive Edmonton PR consultant to help with the press releases. Just another stupid move in a small town. Also, "off the record" meetings, no matter what they like to call them, show a lot of contempt for the local taxpayers who elected them. This is a small town, not New York City.
Dean
It looks like the house of cards is about to come crashing down.
It's about time.
Good sources tell me this is not the end of the blood letting.
Is this a result of the HR report we just completed with Colleen? If it is based on the morale issues we have in the workplace then I guarantee you the blood letting is not over.
Does not matter we are Not buying these last minute face saving maneuvers they are akin to reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.

This is the perfect chance for Bruce to make good on one of his major election platform promises. Maybe just one transit bus leaving this town, into the sunset, loaded with unnecessary administration.
In my dreams I imagine an affordable, effective, administration.
Better pinch me...I can't believe that Bruce has been presented with this opportunity. Take it!

The reorg of the Fire Department was orchestrated by Bruce Decoux with recommendations from consultant Robins. Ken Brands was thrown under the bus. The rest of the fire people are but puppets. Blame Bruce for this BS, this was his platform.
Well it appears that we lose 3 administrators per year that seems to indicate that we should have two more jumping ship soon.
I am sure that some of the present council will take this opportunity to tell their friends in the back rooms that there was issues that good have been dealt with in a better fashion.
Bruce any Brian Gallant are the main architects and cheerleaders of the fire department restructuring fiasco. The rest of the council just sat there and let this happen. The real cost of this restructuring is still to come.
Anon 10:58 It may have been Bruces plan but all of the lemmings were aboard. I blame all 7.
The mess we have can partially be blamed on the leader but certainly not completely. Every direction he took would have required a minimum of three councillors to support him. With the administration there are some changes needed but ultimately they were following MAYOR and COUNCILLORS directions. Note my emphasis on Mayor and Council.
I think the Mayor and some of the admin are going to get chucked under the bus in the next few months to allow one of the councillors to step up (mini-Bruce) with the old I know we made some mistakes in the last few years. Maybe at times our Mayor got a little out of hand but we now have a more moderate and reasonable choice.
Mini-Bruce who could that be?
The one to the right, when your facing them.
Headrick leaves every job after a year and a half.
When you are up north and nearing retirement age, you want to move south at government expense, land a cushy job to build the last five years income and position for retirement. The Crowsnest is not really a prize but the mayor handed out a good salary as part of his reorganization plan. We are being used by more than one high level Administration employee for sure. Suckers we are as the mayor himself was sucked in. Now he knows this but "too old too soon, too smart too late".
To anon aug 2 10:58. 1979 was a long time ago. Perhaps it is more than time to move on?
