Entrance signs to the Crowsnest Pass

Your new entrance signs, what do you think? If you do not wish to comment please vote on the right hand side.

New signs will be installed along Highway 3 at each end of the municipality to showcase the new brand of Crowsnest Pass.

Is that a statue of Bruce Decoux on the right hand side?

Shouldn't Bruce's statue be more centered and a few more thousands been spent to make the "Hotel Developers Wanted" sign, that is depicted further to the right, a bit larger and more prominent?

Man our community will be the envy of every one in Western Canada. Tourists will flock here just to have their picture taken besides it.

Some choices of graphic designers tend to suck. I would venture that the same outfit that designed our rebranding was also given carte blanche to come up with the accepted proposal. 'Scale' can be more professionally depicted. How rookie.

Next time have a contest at the local high school and get both involvement and excitement. I would be proud of what they came up with.

A professional presentation for public release should be far more polished. We have paid big dollars for this? If any better elevation depiction exists, please show us what we now own.

I think Clay Cup had an extremely valid point.

What this council pays a lot of our dollars for in an effort to achieve their goals, is "amateurish".

They stand little chance of attracting the true 'rollers'.

Someone has established a lot more credence with me, in regards to business sense, than our current council.

Russell Farmer report on response to August, 2012 Penhold petition:

From the Penhold report:

53. De-clutter the Town website such that important and timely messages can be viewed by residents easily and quickly.

CNP has hired an $80,000 consultant to tell us that.

Anonymous said...

They have removed $100,000 from Senior's Housing and find money for all kinds of goofy spending. $50,000 to reserve a hotel franchise application for a PRIVATE HOTEL CONSULTANT?

God only knows (council for sure not) how much was spent on this ridiculous rebranding exercise.

Now we have on good authority Councillor Brian Gallant was officially in charge of rebranding.

Starting with the initial BY-INVITATION ONLY introduction of the new brand to our small community – things only got worse: the logo is hard to discern, hard to photocopy in stationary or convert to legible small scale PDF, and impossible to read on the banners. To be kind, it is a major flop.

The money should have been given to the local high school and our kids would have done much better.

Taxpayers’ money spent on Consultants for this project was a total waste.

Mountain Freedom said so much about the Crowsnest Pass this says nothing.

the signs don't look real in the picture, I hope they don't blow away.

Anonymous said...

Unbelievable waste of taxpayers' money. This is what they call heavy lifting. October can't come soon enough. We need people on council who can use some common sense and don't run to consultants at every opportunity.

Anonymous said...

My goodness and we thought we had it bad. Councillor following people, OMG.

Anonymous said...

Somebody mentions that Gallant led the way on this re-branding I sure hope in stands up and takes all the credit for it.
Certainly will help him out in the upcoming election.

hope they don't get used for target practice

So which one of them brought in the crayons for this piece of art.

One of the councillors told us he is taking a course in advanced governance.

This is one of the most educated councils we have had in a long time. Too much education and not enough common sense, judging by all the results.

One wonders how many evening classes are required to pick up a bit of common sense late in life?

"One of the councillors told us he is taking a course in advanced governance."

Say what???

Why the reason for his sudden epiphany?

He apparently was quite happy in following three years of Bruce's course on how to govern.

He had three years to bone up on municipal etiquette and we would have seen changes, a long time ago, as he gained knowledge.

I don't even want to know his name but I would bet that I see his name on my ballot.

I don't have much use for this person.

Yes. Pathetic.

Anonymous said...

A little, too late. We know where his heart is.

Back to the reason for the start of this thread.

Let us buy someone a box of crayons. Maybe that person will begin to grasp the concept of how our money should have been more wisely spent in many endeavours.

Hi Dean, you were at the council meeting. Which councilor is taking a course in municipal governance? This is interesting.

Anonymous said...

They have proven one thing. That is very easy to spend someone else's money (taxpayers) than their own. It must give them a big rush to sign a cheque for $200,000 knowing that it is foolish waste of money but what the hell?

Anonymous said...

Add this to the $68,000 for the Best Western, Holiday Inn, Trump Towers plus wine and cheese

Anonymous said...

It boils down to simple math. They are spending more money than we can bring in from the local taxpayers. Two plus two is not five. There is no policy to be written that will change simple math. Too much policy not enough simple math sums up our current council.

$200, 000 would have been better spent on bike trails instead of signs. It would have been an investment instead of branding.

These signs are just a political legacy. Our natural scenery is the best signage we have.

The slackpile and the industrial wastelands are also conspicuous signage. What will visitors think when they see these lavish entrance features and then drive past all this crap?

Anonymous said...

I spend a lot of time on the highway about 150,000km a year these are probably the ugliest entrance signs I have ever seen. Looking at these for the first time tell me what they say about the Crowsnest Pass.

Anonymous said...

The Crowsnest Pass has been hijacked by a bunch of relocated misfits who are trying to re-create it in their own image-- after they were run out of where they used to live. The local followers on the council have rolled over, leaving an open field. The Administration has bought off, scared off or purged anyone who disagrees with their program.

If any of these people are re-elected in October, write the Pass off.

11:35,

Describe, exactly, what and where the industrial wastelands are.

Anonymous said...

3:58,

You're kidding, right?

Anonymous said...

Seems no one is willing to describe the industrial wastelands. From the west we have the old Atlas mill pile of steel junk. Then the old pole plant just east of Coleman. Then the Drain Brothers wasteland across from the old hospital/CLC. (They agreed with old buddy Mator Irwin to build a fence to hide the mess, but didnt say when they would build it). Then there is the Wakaluk mess on the east entrance to Bellevue, which competes with Drain for clutter. Guess one could add the River Run slack pile mess to this. Others can add the rest of the eyesores

Now instead of the Peace Officers trying to justify their existence and keep fining traffic "offenders" to build up their own budget deficit, one would think that they would do something about the other local messes. They may have hit up few property mess offenders but they are just too busy on traffic patrol to do what they were hired for. Have to keep the mayors deficits spending in check..

You missed the pile of rusting heavy equipment & buses on the hill across from Highway 3 Services, west side of Coleman.

Three years wasted on goofy projects. How much money went to consultants for all this nonsense? If they spent this money fixing potholes we could see some progress. You can put banners everywhere, but potholes should come before banners. These people sat on their hands for three years and now want some respect. Why?

Speaking of signs, Bruce says in the Newsletter he likes the murals on Top Gunn.

I'm amazed that Doug Gunn went to all the bother of getting a development permit for the mural and paid the $500 fee as required by Bruce's new Land Use Bylaw.

I think most places have land use bylaws. What is wrong with that?
Have you seen some of the buildings - maybe more should step up and might look a bit nicer downtown.
