This task force was the central theme of Mayor Decoux's election platform.
My expectations are high, I anticipate that we will be seeing some original recommendations. Recommendations with real short time lines for implementation, not ten years down the road.
Most importantly they need to be ideas that DO NOT impose any further financial burden on the poor taxpayers of the Crowsnest Pass.

My expectations are low.I will sum up the task force recomendations for you right now.
1 Bring in industry.
2 Convince a major hotel to build here.( Chateau LL, Banff Springs, Crowsnest Centre, just kidding)
3 Build a rec centre.
4 Build a chairlift.
5 Build something that draws yourists and has them stay several days.
6 Hire someone to promote the CNP.
7 Waive certain fees or taxes to promote business to come here.
8 Waive certain fees or taxes on new home construction.
All of the above would help the CNP, but puting something on paper is easy. The hard part is actually getting something done.I do look forward to the report and hope there are some great ideas that will get us headed in the right direction.

Promote the area like crazy

Have the people who will benefit the most pay for it. Bussinesses, developers, realtors, etc.

Let's wait and see what comes of the process. Dooming the report before it is even released is not helpful. Real change needs the support of the masses.

Now I know I have been wrong about a few things in the past on this blog.
But I am really excited about this report, this will be the catalyst for many great things to come.
It will be only a matter of time before we have everything that the communties in the Elk Valley does.
I did read the article in the Elk Valley Herald and I agree we now have a "diligent and thoughtful" council good things are coming.

Cliff you are right, this is going to be the beginning of big things for the Pass. This YO YO former councillor proved us wrong on one issue big deal.
This new Council is going to do big things for us, they will find new CAO that will bring original new ideas to the Pass. He will be a key team player who leads the Pass into the Future.
This reort on the 20th really will solve our problems, the Pass will finally become the envy of all our neighbours.

I am being optimistic that this report will be a good thing.
Looking forward to some good ideas that will only make us a better community.

We have to make sure there is a solid business plan attched to what ever the task force suggests, showing us exactly what it will cost, how we will pay for it and exactly how much our taxes will go up. THEN and only THEN can we say if we agree or not. I trust, we the tax payers will have the final say.

I am sure there will be some good things in this report. Some old ideas and some new.The question will be can we rally as a community and support some of these ideas.
What if the report says build a rec centre, even knowing that taxes would go up.Would a large majority support this?
What if the report says fix up the Crowsnest Center???
What if the report says blow up the Crowsnest center?
What would the Herald report on either of these issues?
I beleive we as a community are going to face some tough decisions, and some of us are not going to be happy, but it is time to move forward.
