Well the positive side of me says this is a good thing, Wasn't this was one of the first priorities in the much heralded Strategic Plan, after all the money we have spent on consultants and all the turn over and growth we have had in the administration ranks its good to see the first position that should have been filled finally being advertised .
The cynical side of me says lets look at the time lines:
Position advertised in March
Interviews by end of April
EDO in place sometime in June
Election in October

I myself wonder if a position like this is needed in such a small place. Probably money out the door, wonder what the outcomes projection would be.
I just hope they are going to hire somebody on a contract basis.
So that they preform or they are gone, the contract needs to lay out clean expectations, goals and achievement level.
Not be another one of these government positions that became impossible to determine what the community really gets out of the position.
Keep in mind its not like the Muni has been shy on spending money on consultants.
I read through the qualifacations for this job and it leads me to believe that you will end up with a highly educated office person with no sales experience. What you really need is a salesman. The best way to structure it would be a base salary(fairly low ) plus commision and expenses. This only works if the EDO actually gets out there and develops leads and makes sales.Because if the EDO just ends up making pretty brochures and maning a booth at a trade show the results will be predictable.
They'll give someone a huge salary to be their "yes" man, and then we'll all get the letters with our utility bills, (paid for by our taxes) telling us what a great job he/she is doing, and also what great things the Council and Mayor are doing, (to take away our freedoms, because we're all such bad little boy's and girls,) and how we are such uniformed whiners.
Sorry about the run-on sentence!
They have so many staff members now that aren't doing their jobs...lets hire some more! The municipality is so over staffed...they need to look at other municipality staff ratios and get rid of some people.
Just got my utility bill. Whose bright idea was it to make it in a type style and colour, that makes it very difficult to read?
My mom is having a hard enough time as it is.
