For all of those that have been asking, you should have received a Parking permit with your utility bill. If you did not or you don't receive a utility bill. I am told that you can pick up a permit at the municipal office.
This is what they look like below, you will not be allowed into Blairmore after 9am on Saturday without one.

must be a "locals" only weekend
Come on Rum Runner Days. Can`t wait and see how Randall does with the thousands of people coming into town. I hear the RCMP have put away their horses. They won't need them(for crowd control) now that we are only going to have families here.
I hope none of the young ones misbehave at the outdoor concerts.Remember no drinking or smoking(anything). That only happens at TITV.
I was irritated when I found the Parking Pass in my utility bill. I honestly thought that it was intended to lie on your dash to frighten away tow trucks. Foolish me!
They are planning to turn away white trash at the gates? Can they actually legally close the public streets of a whole town? What an idiotic gong show.
Fortress CNP ...
what were they thinking?... I guess they weren't.
in a word - embarassing
what's next? a moat around Blairmore?
If some businesses are afraid of theft or vandalism perhaps they should close for one day!
What about the few people off the highway who just want to pick up some groceries as they go camping - must drive on to the next town? This brought to us by $1200/day consultants.
What are they thinking. We have gone to the parade every year and have arrived a little late as we know how long it takes to get to where we sit. We have never had a problem finding a parking spot.So now a out of town person shows up and is told they have to take the shuttle and pay 5 bucks.Warm welcome to the CNP it is not.
I think the parking pass idea would have been a good one if Thunder was still going and used after 5:00. You would then have needed a designated route for the shuttles to travel without getting stuck in traffic.
What happens if my uncle/aunt/grampa/whomever dies on Friday and I need to come from out of town to Blairmore to be with family?
What if I'm from Alabama and I'm driving through and remember my great-uncle Joe lived in Blairmore years ago and wanted to drive around to see the place?
There're too many what-ifs with this whole parking pass crap.
Dean, did council pass a by-law to close these streets? If they did'nt they can not stop you from coming into Blairmore.
Well they close streets in Calgary all the time for things. I doubt they need council approval.
They can do it for parades, maintenance, etc. That is in the CNP Traffic Bylaw.
But there are limitations:
ALBERTA TRAFFIC SAFETY ACT
Restriction of powers
16 Unless specifically permitted by this Act or any other Act, a council of a municipality does not have any power to make a bylaw that does one or more of the following:
(a) imposes any tax, fee, licence or permit respecting the use of highways by pedestrians or vehicles;
(b) excludes pedestrians or vehicles generally from using highways;
(c) prohibits the use of highways by pedestrians or vehicles;
Good to know that the organizing committee has imposed restrictions without referring to the legal consequences ... makes me shake my head. The committee is working hard and doing the best it can, and I thank them for that. But they are well-meaning amateurs and need some oversight from the town legal department.
Without the fireworks to draw herds of visitors, it is all moot. The volunteers manning the access station will not be busy.
Are we going to try to restrict assess on Doors Open weekend that is coming up? The issues are the same ... no fireworks but lots to do.
