Interesting things to check out.

Two things: Very interesting letter to the editor in the Pass Herald this week from long time resident Dick Burgman regarding the town hall meeting.
Second if you have not had chance yet check out the Thunder in the Valley T-shirts now available at Sears, very well done. Only $20 and all the profits go to support a very good cause the Crowsnest Museum.

Letter to the Editor is available at the following address:

Dean,

Do you know whether Mr. Burgman was effected by the new Heavy Truck Bylaw in Crowsnest Pass? With all due respect to Mr. Burgman, would his recent letters to the editor in the local papers and his speech at the Town Hall meeting be connected to this? I believe his letter to the editor in this week's Herald makes mention of this bylaw.

Yup, always an individual agenda most of the time.

Very glad the big trucks are gone.

Dean did you check out the flyer in the utility bill? they are expecting 20000 people for rum runner days.

Got my utility bill today. RUM RUNNER DAYS>‘It is anticipated that over 20,000 people will attend this celebration “
So why did they cancel the fireworks???
They are making fools out of all of us!! The ones who really look foolish though are the ones still defending council saying they canceled it for our safety. I find it hard to believe that anyone still believes that or feel bad for them if they are truly that naive. Bet they will be the ones who end up on the handpicked economic development team. Lets keep track.

PS Great letter Mr. Burgman. We need more people like you. 12:42 and 1:43--oldest trick in the Crowsnest Pass book to try and make people feel bad, stupid or have a private agenda for daring to voice their opinion. That does not work here anymore, but nice try.

It does not bother me having to have a parking pass. I think it is a good idea. Way too lax before, camping everywhere. zoo

We got a pair of parking passes with our utility bill yesterday. Visitors will be turned back? Guess that Blairmore businesses are so prosperous that they can give up drive-by customers for a day. Is it legal to copy the passes and send them to our own weekend visitors who will want to park on our property?

Will be curious to see how many people are permitted to attend!

How to kill an event ...

Even if Burgman had a personal issue with the trucking issue does not mean he is wrong. His letter is spot on as to some of the problems in the CNP.
I also find it very funny that I need a parking pass. If 20,000 people show up how can they guarantee the safety of everyone, as was there excuse for cancelling Thunder. My best guess is that this will be a small local event and that there is no need for these parking passes. These parking passes would have worked great if Thunder was still going but only to be used in the evening.Does the Rumrunner commitee not realize that Thunder was the draw? And how dare they promote and spend taxpayers dollars on this, because if 20,000 people show up you have the exact same problem, is that not defeating the purpose. Just goes to show that Thunder was cancelled for a much different reason that what we have been told.

I heard there is a $500 fine if you are caught copying your permit.

$500 fine...

They haven't got peace officers yet, so who would enforce it? The page I got is not "copyright" protected.

I'm curious about this parking pass thing.
So if I have to run out to Sobeys, do I need a p/pass? What if I have to go pick up my mail?
Ok, so Aunt Sally is feeling ill and I need to go bring her lunch on Saturday. She has one of those houses with no drive and I have to park on the street. Do I need a p/pass?
What if I have company coming and they will be able to park in my driveway, will that be a problem?
Here's a good one. Grandpa Joe dies on Thursday and everyone is coming to my house on Saturday for a get-together (except Aunt Sally, because she's sick). There will be 20 or so guests, because Grandpa Joe was a great guy. How will the town handle that? It's a bit of a special situation.
Where will the entertainment park?
I think they (council) just keep digging their own graves. Maybe we can bury them beside Joe! LOL

Regardless of his connection to the issue he brought up at the meeting, Mr. Burgman deserved to be treated more respectfully. As a member of our community (either weekender, full-time, long-time, newcomer or otherwise), Mr. Burgman and any concerns he raises should be addressed respectfully and without rhetoric regarding who his friends were in school.

I also accept that the mayor could have honestly mixed up the issues (between the parking bylaw and the new garage in town), but still believe his response to Mr. Burgman should have been more in keeping with the office he holds.
